Introduction

Grafida is a writing tool for Joomla! articles. You write and edit on your own computer or phone — with or without a network connection — and Grafida sends the finished result to your site over its Web Services (REST) API when you choose to publish.

This version of Grafida runs on Android.

Offline first

Everything you write lives on your own machine first. A new article is a local article in Grafida's own database until you press Publish; nothing reaches your site before then. You can keep working with no connection at all — on a train, on a plane, wherever — and publish later.

The same is true the other way round. Opening an existing article from your site downloads a copy into a local article, and further edits stay local until you publish again. Two people editing the same article at the same time is a real possibility this does not protect you from: Grafida has no notion of anyone else's edits, only of what your site last told it.

What Grafida is not

It is not a general Joomla! administration tool. There is no user manager, no extension manager and no global configuration — only the parts of a site that concern writing and illustrating an article: its categories, tags, access levels, languages, custom fields and Media Manager.

It is also not a syncing service. Moving an article between machines is a deliberate, one-off export and import — see Drafts and Files — never something that happens quietly in the background.

How the app is laid out

Five places, reached from the navigation drawer:

  • Sites — the sites you have connected, and the form for adding or editing one.
  • Articles — your local articles, and the articles already on the selected site.
  • Media Manager — pictures stored in Grafida, and a read-only view of the site's own media.
  • Settings — appearance, language and the rest.
  • Help — these pages.

Most screens work on one site at a time. Choose it with Set as active site on the Sites screen; until you do, the Articles and Media screens have nothing to show.
